(A Biblical Poem Inspired by Matthew 6:22-23, Proverbs 4:23, and Psalm 141:3)
Eyes that see, yet turn away.
From vanity’s lure and shadowed gray.
“If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light,”
So I cover mine with truth and sight.
No evil scene shall stain my soul,
I fix my gaze on Heaven’s goal.
Ears that hear, yet silence choose.
Lest slander, strife, or lies abuse.
“Incline thine ear unto wisdom’s call,”
But shun the serpent’s hiss and fall.
Let not foul counsel breach this gate,
I wait for words that heal, not hate.
Lips that part, yet often still.
For speech may bless, or break God’s will.
“Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth,”
Lest bitter streams go rushing south.
With holy hush I guard the flame,
And speak but what uplifts His Name.
Three gates, one soul, a sacred trust,
To keep the heart pure, wise, and just.
For as a man thinks deep within,
So do his gates draw grace, or sin.
Lord, help me watch both day and night,
That I may walk in Spirit’s light.
